There are a lot of things I love that make my life more beautiful. Like people. And wildflowers. I don’t know if the two are comparable aside from the fact that there are lots of them and they’re everywhere. But wildflowers have a super special place in my heart. Quite a few things do really. Below is a list of 10 of those things that have made (and are making) my day-to-day a bit sweeter (in no particular order):
My Overall 10/10:
Four years ago someone asked me what my favorite thing in nature was and why. I answered wildflowers and said I love that even though they grow through dirt they come up beautifully. They don’t require attention. They go wherever they’re planted and they flourish. I want my life to be like a little wildflower. Any time they’re on sale at the Sprout’s down the street I grab a bouquet and put them next to my letter board to remind myself of this.
2. Dr. Bronner’s Mint Toothpaste
Okay, listen. I’m super health conscious, yeah. But this toothpaste, in addition to being free of toxins and fluoride (this is a big one to stay away from), makes my teeth WHITE. I’ve tried too many teeth-whitening toothpastes and whiteners and have only been satisfied with Dr. Bronner’s. I feel really good about the color white for most things, especially my teeth.
Dr. Bronner’s has a laundry list of toxic-free products that I use at home and would recommend to anyone. They get the job done. Read about them here.
3. French Pressed Coffee
French pressed specifically because the grounds brew in boiled water for a few minutes resulting in the fullest bodied cup of joe. It’s tremendous really. My french press is also ideal because of single or double serving capabilities. Perfect for a one-cup-in-the-morning or a two-cups-on-a-Monday type gal.
4. Kali Box Organic Tampons
You can read my feelings about this product here.
5. “The Defining Decade” by Meg Jay
I won’t go into too much depth about this book, but The Defining Decade changed the way I think about relationships, my school-life, my work-life, and success. It capitalizes on the idea that your 20’s are critical and often times understated, but offers an approach to mapping out these nebulous but totally practicable way. This is a must read for anyone in their 20s, but even more so for those who are 18 or 19. Drill Meg’s wisdom in your head now. You’ll be so, so glad you did.
6. DSLR Canon 5d Mark IV
My Canon 70d is my heart and soul because it was what I started shooting with when I understood nothing about the attributes of a camera and hardly knew how to turn on the flash. But since then, I’ve been shooting with the Canon 5d Mark IV body and I’m obsessed. It has made me fall in love with photography over and over again. I use it more on a daily basis than I ever did my first camera.
I am passionate (debatably too passionate) about this to-do list app. I prefer a prolonged physical list always, but this is my go-to for the day-to-day: school assignments, work-related endeavors, don’t-forget-this-is-important type things. You know how it is. You’ll know what you’ve been missing out on when you download this app and its all-encompassing glory is sitting between the frame of your phone screen. Read more about my obsession here.
To-do: Download Wunderlist
8. Any fresh Balsam or Pine scented candle
I like to wear wool socks, sit on my velvet couch, burn my pine candle, pretend that I’m in the woods (my apartment kind of is), and pretend that Bon Iver plans to release a single every day for the rest of forever. When my candle burns out I’ll replace it with one of the five backups I have in my storage closet so I can go to this dreamland whenever I want.
9. “NOW” Solutions Real Bamboo Diffuser
I’m not obsessed with essential oils, and although I do know they work and have experienced their goodness firsthand, I’ll preface by saying I don’t sell them. I just know that ever since I started diffusing a blend of Lavender and Stress Relief essential oils in my diffuser my sleep has been solid and my mind has felt calm. I don’t know if I should attribute it to the oils or the diffuser — there are many, many oils I use regularly and adore because of their ease and variety of use, but without the diffuser my room would not put me in a near-coma, so it only makes sense that the NOW Solutions diffuser gets a decent amount of accreditation.
10. Most recently, Enneagrams
I don’t know enough about this yet to speak to it too much, but my friend Kender introduced me to the Enneagram a while back and I only recently discovered my Enneagram number (I’m a 3). Ever since taking the personality test, listening to the song that reflects my Enneagram that Sleeping at Last made for each number, and listening to the accompanying podcast, I see myself differently. I understand my soul a bit better and I’m in the process of learning how to maneuver the original design of my mind and heart.
It’s all too much to explain, really, but I think you’ll understand what I’m talking about when you take the test. You can do so here. The songs made by Sleeping at Last can be found here, and the podcasts that accompany them here. They’ve been exceptionally resourceful for me and I hope they are for you as well. If you take the test let me know what your Enneagram is in the comments below so I can know you better as well.
Other things I love:
Indian food, leather, white bedding, Dyson vacuum cleaners, honey, planners, baths, thrift shopping, classic coffee mugs, hair scarves, Apple Music, the color yellow, sautéed mushrooms.
